Tuesday

Here is a video sample of me signing the book Tuesday.  It was an enjoyable challenge.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cED1jKCIY30

Hi I'm Robin!

I'm Robin Meeks!  I am currently an ASL Interpreter and have a blast doing it.  The field of interpreting is an extremely unique career.  In one day I can go to a bunch of different places, in completely different situations, and meet with completely different people.  Not only do I need to have an understanding of the language required in each situation (a medical appointment uses different language than an elementary school class), I must be able to understand the background of the situation without any explanation about it.  An interpreter must know a little bit about everything.  When I say everything I mean anything from automotive to surgical procedures. Without an understanding of a situation it is impossible to interpret accurately.  I think that is what I love most about my job!  I love the randomness and the "on the spotness" that keeps me on my toes.  I love the way that my job challenges me intellectually as well.  To briefly describe the interpreting process:  Simultaneously the interpreter listens to the message being spoken/signed, understands the message (while still taking in more messages) changes the message to to match the client's language, produce the message in a clear manner so easily understood by the client (while still taking in more messages).  That is what I love.  I love that my brain has to work for my job.  I love the flexibility and everything I have learned while doing this job. So this is my journey as I keep building my skills as an ASL Interpreter.  As always I'm always open to other opportunities that come my way because life is what you make while you are living.  I don't want to give up opportunities if it will help me or my family.  Lets just say I'm open to try anything and everything for an experience.
